“Now this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you—that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all"
1 John 1:5 TLV
In Jesus, there is no darkness. What does that mean and what does that look like? Let's take a look at the "Story of the Sparrow."
A sparrow is soaring in the wind. His instinct tells him that there is a storm coming, but he is not worried. He knows to whom he belongs to. The wind picks up and dark clouds appear. The once cheerful day has now turned into a turbulent night! The sparrow keeps flying but with no ounce of fear. Thunder rumbles. CRASH!! Lightning strikes in the distance. He keeps flying and now starts singing a song. "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Your perfect love is casting out fear. And even when I'm caught in the middle of the storms of this life. I won't turn back. I know You are near." The night starts to respond to the song with dark clouds circling and the rumble mimics laughter. The sparrow doesn't appear phased by the night. He keeps singing. "And I will fear no evil. For my God is with me. And if my God is with me. Whom then shall I fear? Whom then shall I fear?" The night now sends all its terror! It does not like this bird nor the song that he's singing. A tornado is formed and a dangerous wind follows. The might of the night is in full force! CRASH!!! Lightning strikes close by. However, looking into the eyes of the bird you would think that he is flying on a calm day where the sun is shinning and the wind is calm. The sparrow sees the tornado and sings, "Oh no, You never let go. Through the calm and through the storm. Oh no, You never let go. In every high and every low. Oh no, You never let go. Lord, You never let go of me." A pinprick of light breaks through the darkness. It encompasses the swallow. The night shrieks and cowers away. The light stays with the bird through the storm and into the morning light.
Jesus is the light in the middle of the storm. He is the One that sends the darkness away. The peace the sparrow sensed was not because of where he was or his circumstances. He had the light because the light was with him. We can learn a lesson from the "Story of the Sparrow." The peace that passes all understanding. The light that sends away all the darkness is not us but Jesus and the Holy Spirit that is with us always.

Jesus, there are dark clouds in my life. I am afraid that they will overpower me. I long for peace. I long for safety. Make me brave. Shine Your light upon me. I don't need a full blast. Just a pinprick. That will be enough for me. May the light be with me and as I walk through the darkness, I will have peace. Your peace. Amen.
Be blessed and know that you are loved by YeHoVaH through Messiah Yeshua and the Ruach ha-Kodesh lives within you.
